Today we spent the day learning and honoring our First Nations People. We read the book When We Were Alone and learned about one story of a little girl's experiences. The students had a discussion about how it was wrong that children had to live away from their families, dress all the same in dark colours and get their hair all cut off. The students of room 10 completed a journal entry about their thoughts and feelings. We then looked at the customs and traditions of the First Nations people. We learned about Napi the trickster and studied the beautiful regalia that the Pow Wow dancers wear. We were inspired by this bead work and decided to try some patterning with beads ourselves.
