Giving children time to explore with materials teaches them how to plan out a project, makes them think about the materials they may need, requires them to problem solve and gives the opportunity to express themselves with many different mediums. This student created a "camera", we then took a photo of his "camera", printed it and glued it inside his journal where he extended his learning by using his literacy skills to labeling his photo. Many other students expressed themselves through bead work, large blocks, plasticine and recyclable materials.
